The Saving Student

Are you a broke student? If so, you are not alone. In fact, being a student and having very little money goes hand in hand and it is something that must be dealt with on an individual basis. Some people are better than others at managing their restricted income, and sometimes, people have to go above and beyond to make money outside of study time to simply get by.

Luckily there are some good ideas out there, especially now that we have the internet as a source of money-making opportunity; it is just a case of opening the mind and finding a niche way to get hold of cash. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be anything that is new, there are lots of people out there earning good money through tried and tested methods, it’s probably more a case of how much time is able to be dedicated to making money.

We’ve talked about making money before, especially with regards to student money-making, but we feel we need to reiterate the opportunities out there because recent reports regarding students searching for financial assistance has shocked us.

According to recent reports in the press, a high number of students, especially female, have taken to sex work to try and make ends meet. This is never advised and we strongly believe that this could be avoided if people tried other methods to create a bit of income. There are many avenues out there, it’s all a matter of finding which one works the best for your particular set of circumstances.

As previously mentioned, we believe a lot of money can be made online. Students constantly have their noses pressed up against a computer screen anyway so what’s an extra half hour online trying to make some money? One of the easiest and most popular things to do is to complete a few online surveys. Market research is all the rage at the moment and there will be no shortage of surveys for you to participate in, meaning a bit of cash is nailed on.

For the people with a little bit more time and ambition, there is always the opportunity to look into a new business venture, this will take a lot of effort though so it may not be viable for most people going through a period of study.

There are many things that could earn you money online. It’s just a matter of establishing what you have time for. If you have a passion for a particular subject and you are studying something affiliated with this passion, it may actually work in your favour to try and get a business off the ground. This is because it will show that, regardless of whether it is a success, you have the desire to try and make something out of nothing – it will also look good on a CV to say you have attempted a business venture, alongside gaining all relevant qualifications.

The possibilities for money-making don’t just stop there though. There are plenty of other things that can be done that may create a bit of income flow.

Of course, there is the good old-fashioned part time job that people should always try to strive for. Working a part time job not only helps with the bills but it keeps employment history up-to-date which highlights to employers after university that you are prepared to work and balance your time.

You could also sell some of your old things. This can either be done through methods such as ebay or other online auction sites, or you could just attend car boot sales and sell some things there.

As a student, you may find that one of the best ways to claw a little bit of money back is to sell on any old study books that you have purchased during your time at uni. Everyone knows that books required to pass essays and exams at university cost an arm and a leg so it is always a nice feeling if you can sell them on at a slightly reduced rate in order to get a few pennies back. It’s a win win for all involved, you, the seller, get some money back from the initial high purchase cost, and the new owners get good study books for far cheaper than if they had bought them new.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to making a little bit of cash. And the majority of options open to you require you to leave your clothes on!
